Tax Benefits of Supporting the Campaign

Donating to our campaign offers significant tax advantages for both individuals and businesses.
Here’s how your donation can work for you:

Disclaimer:
The information provided on this page is intended for general guidance on tax benefits related to charitable donations. It does not constitute legal or financial advice. Tax laws are subject to change, and the specific impact of charitable donations on your tax situation may vary. We recommend consulting a qualified tax advisor or financial professional to determine how these benefits apply to your individual circumstances.

  • If you’re a higher rate (40%) or additional rate (45%) taxpayer, donating to our campaign through the Eparchy (registered charity no. 240088) or the Orchestral Music Society (soon to be registered) can help you reduce your tax bill while supporting a worthy cause.

    • Gift Aid Boost:
For every £100 you donate, and if you sign a Gift Aid Declaration, the charity receives an extra £25 from the government. So, your donation grows to £125.

      • Higher rate taxpayers (40%): You can claim 20% back on the gross donation (£125), reducing your tax by £25.

      • Additional rate taxpayers (45%): You can claim 25%, receiving £31.25 back.

    • Carry-back Donations:
Donate this tax year (6 April 2024 to 5 April 2025) and carry it back to the previous year’s tax return (before filing it), potentially reducing the amount of tax you owe by 31 January 2025.

  • Charitable donations are also a great way for companies to reduce their corporation tax bill. With the corporation tax rate at 19% (for profits up to £250,000) and 25% (for profits above £250,000), businesses can deduct the full value of their donations from taxable profits.

    • Example:
A £1,000 donation would reduce the company's tax liability by £250, making the real cost of the donation just £750. Plus, donations can be part of a company’s CSR strategy, enhancing their public image.

  • While HMRC restricts charities from offering excessive benefits in exchange for donations, there are still exciting opportunities. The Orchestra can offer programme advertisements, sponsorship deals, and even banner placements for corporate donors. For instance, our concert programme has premium advertising spots, which could enhance visibility for your brand.
